The Pawn: The Soul of Chess
The Pawn is the most numerous and tactical unit on the board. Pawns move straight forward one square at a time, except on their very first move, where they can jump forward two squares. Unlike other pieces, Pawns capture diagonally.
Promotion & En Passant: When a Pawn successfully reaches the furthest opposite rank (8th rank), it immediately promotes to a Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight, turning an ordinary foot soldier into a devastating weapon. It also has a special stealth capture rule called En Passant.
